We were so lucky to enjoy a great day for the 2010 Abbeville Fete, avoiding the Great Heat (in every sense) of Sunday.
We again attracted huge crowds to the Abbeville Road neighbourhood, proving once again the worth of this simple community event with a purpose, which gives such pleasure to all who take part. With other streets in the neighbourhood starting their events, we know we’re on to a good thing!
Some early news: We’re still collecting the funds from donors, but it looks like we may match last year’s net income of £15,000. Some traders have been hit hard, so to get near previous years’ revenue today is a tribute to everyone who took part. Our five charities should be very pleased.
The bar, the barbecue, teas and cakes actually took more money than last year, and the Silent Auction matched 2008.
We were delighted to welcome so many musicians this year, with groups from Lambeth Academy, St Mary’s school, Macaulay school, South London Choir, Hogiau Llundain, Barry Fantoni ensemble. It sounded great!
See you all next year!

Phew! Now that England have conquered mighty Slovenia, we can concentrate on what really matters – the Abbeville Fete.
Sunshine is predicted so we have laid on ice cream as well as delicous food and refreshing beverages. Romance is in the air so you can learn how to tango. Fables and fairy tales are the theme so watch out for the Queen of Hearts. Wimbledon is on so there are strawberries and cream. We love rugby too so we have Hogiau Llundain (work it out! Ed.)
Did you know that we are supporting a new charity this year? A free Pimms (or Magnum if you’re under the age for alcohol) from the editor if you’re the first to spot the new name on our charities page. Claim it by sending us an email.

The signboards are up! The programmes are out! The raffle tickets are on sale! The email list is filled with urgent enquiries about bunting! Yes, the 2010 Abbeville Fete is almost upon us. It all begins at noon on Saturday 26th June, at the junction of Abbeville Road and Narbonne Avenue, SW4.
Find your fairies, prepare your princesses and bring your bears, because this year’s theme is FAIRYTALES AND FABLES.

The totals are in, the last coppers have been counted, and we can announce that the 2009 Abbeville Fete raised a total of £16,100. This is a fantastic achievement, just £1000 away from our highest total ever. Many thanks to everyone who came, or who donated time or money to the fete. All the money will go to our various charities.

The 2009 Abbeville Fete went off in glorious sunshine last weekend, attracting huge crowds to our corner of Clapham. Everyone seemed to have a great time.
A few scraps of information:
We don’t have a final fundraising total for the day yet, but it looks like it’s slightly down on 2008′s record of £17,000. Given the state of the economy, ‘slightly down’ is a massive success for us. Ou seven charities will be over the moon.
The Silent Auction actually took more money than last year—an extraordinary £5700. Top lot was the weekend for two in St Lucia, which sold for £1300.
The Pimms Bar got through a bottle of Pimms every 220 seconds, for four hours. The barbecue completely sold out.
There are some fantastic photographs of the day on the Fete’s page at Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/abbeville-fete/pool/. If you’ve got any of your own, please add them. If you recognise anyone, add note, a a tag or a comment.
Huge thanks to everyone who volunteered, sponsored, donated, helped or came along.
See you all next year!

(The burgers and sausages for the barbecue are being provided by M. Moens & Sons—yum!)

Three more late donations to the fete!
Haweli of Clapham, on Cavendish Parade, has donated an Indian meal for four people to the Silent Auction.
French restaurant Le Chardon on Abbeville Road has donated a meal for two people to the Raffle.
Balham-based Mini Crochets has donated a term’s worth of music classes for children aged 9 months to three years to the Silent Auction.
Raffle tickets are available from many retailers up and down Abbeville Road, priced 50p each. The Silent Auction will be running on the day of the fete: you can find it just inside the church, on the right as you go in.
Thanks to these and all our donors for their generosity.
