The Abbeville Fete 2009 was a resounding success in a day of gorgeous sunshine, raising almost £16000 for local charities.
The theme was ‘Musicals’, and there was a fantastic turn-out of junior Freds and Gingers, leading ladies, best boys, hoofers, tappers, divas and more. Fete regular Jeb the Juggler was unable to attend but was replaced by Maximo the Juggler, who spent most of the day on stilts and did a wonderful job entertaining the crowds. The Pimms Bar and barbecue both did a roaring trade, and the stalls up and down the road reported brisk trade. The waiters’ race was won by… nobody really knows. Top lot at the silent action was the holiday for two to St Lucia, donated by Virgin Holidays, which fetched over a thousand pounds. There was a fire engine in attendance, and the police helicopter paid a brief visit too.
